Dear Clauson,
I was recently asked by the Hong Kong and
Shanghai Bank if I would approach the Tower of London
to ask if it would store silver to the value of some
£400,000, which they expected to have to hold to the
order of the Hong Kong Government as security for
}
additional notides in Hong Kong. I approached the
Tower of London who were unable to accede to the request,
and I therefore suggested to the Hong Kong Bank that
possibly it might be arranged that the silver should
be held by the brokers to the order of the Hong Kong
Government since neither the Bank of England nor the
Mint are able to store it. I thought that you might
like to have this information.
I should be grateful if you could let me
know what is the present position about Hong Kong
currency. If currency notes are being widely circulated
